Dambulla cave Temple, largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. There are more than 80 documentary caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spred over 5 caves. These paintings and statures are related to Buddha and his life as well as history of Sri lanka. During 18 th century AD the caves were restored and painted by the kandyan king “Kirthi Sri rajasinha”. Under the drip ledge of the main cave, there is a Brahmi letter inscriptions says “The cave of the great king “Gaminitissa” who is delighted by gods, is given this cave to the monks for quarters present and absent”.
